Andy Fellowes is currently on his way back to Leeds after a weekend in the city, drinking, smoking, eating pizza and seeing The Misanthrope on the stage, magnificently adapted into a modern day setting and impeccably acted by Damian Lewis and Keira Knightley. The last play I saw was Breakfast At Tiffany's, which with more hindsight was pretty terrible. But The Misanthrope appealed to me on all levels. The story itself is one that appeals to me, it's about a playwright who is at odds with the world he inhabits. This was the main topic of conversation for the rest of the day, as Andy and I discussed our views of the play and those it made us question about our own lives. Money well spent, I think. It's hard to have such a Misanthropic view of the world, and to try and not let it ruin your life. Most people will tell you, I'm a pessimistic person. I doubt every thing and every person. I don't believe in true love, The One, soul mates, fate, or any of that nonsense. But yet I can constantly see the good side of things, and see a positive from those things you have to do that you hate.
Finding a balance. It's pretty hard.
